Karl Asa Richardson Obituary's Obituary
Karl Asa Richardson, son of Minnie Ola (Wells) and John W. Richardson, was born May 8, 1920 in Carlisle, Iowa. He passed away April 13, 2013 at the Iowa Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. As a child he was raised in Southern Iowa. The family settled in the Corydon area and Karl graduated from the Corydon High School in 1939. He was united in marriage to Violet McFarland on June 22, 1940. They have celebrated 72 years of marriage. To this union three children were born: Shirley Ann, Carolyn Jane, and Jerry William. They later adopted Kenneth Alan. Together they began farming north of Clio. In 1944 he was drafted in the Army. During his years in the service he marched through much of Germany and France and was awarded the Purple Heart after being wounded. After his discharge from the service, he returned to the farm near Clio and began working at the Michigan Wisconsin Pipeline near Lineville. In October 1949 Karl and Violet moved to their present farm. Karl was a 50-year member of both the Masons and Eastern Star. He was a very proud member of both organizations, holding many of the offices. He was also a member of the American Legion and V.F.W. Karl was an active member of the Clio United Methodist Church. He was a trustee and served as the treasurer for many years. When the Clio church closed Karl and Violet attended the Allerton United Methodist Church. In June 1982 Karl retired from the Michigan Wisconsin Pipeline after 29 years of service, but continued farming as long as he was physically able. His parents, John and Minnie, a daughter Shirley, eight brothers and one sister preceded Karl in death. Karl is survived by his wife, Violet, son-in-law Cecil Smith, Beacon, Iowa, daughter Carolyn (Lyle Reed) Lockwood of Stapleton, Nebraska, sons Jerry (Sonya Jo) of Clio, Iowa and Kenneth (Rita) of Mesa, Arizona, 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren. His sister Elizabeth Moore of Leon and several nieces, nephews, and a host of dear friends also survive him.
