Karen Riegel's Obituary
Karen Sue Riegel, age 55 of Moravia, Iowa died Saturday, July 16, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville, Iowa.
She was born on April 5, 1956 in Centerville, Iowa to Dale and LaVerna (Rumans) Riegel.
Karen graduated from Moravia High School in 1974. She attended Indian Hills Community College for two years and Truman State for one year majoring in Art. Following school, Karen taught at Head Start in Centerville and preschool in Moravia. Then she went to beauty school in Ottumwa and opened her own salon in Moravia. She operated Salon Trends for many years. In 1994, she started at Moravia Elementary as an aide. She worked there for almost seventeen years. Karen's greatest joy in life was her family and her dogs. She enjoyed scrap booking and attending all of her kids' activities. Karen was known as a 2nd mom to all her nieces and nephews. She attended the Church of the Nazarene in Moravia, Iowa.
She is survived by her mother LaVerna Riegel of Moravia, two sisters Sharon (Dan) McDanel, of Moravia, and Nancy (Marty) Hatfield of Moravia; six nieces and nephews, Mindy Johnson of Moravia, Michelle (Jason) Hall of Waukee, Monica (Lance) Risher of Centerville, Melanie (Brian) Templeton of Centerville, Brandon (Tracy) Hatfield of Moravia, and Tasha (Brandon) Irving of Moravia; Seventeen great nieces and nephews, Devyn Johnson, Gavin Johnson, Mason Johnson, Austin Hall, Zander Hall, Alexa Hall, Kyler Risher, Kailyn Risher, Rhylan Risher, Anessa Risher, Sienna Risher, Baby Risher, Kaleb Templeton, Ellie Templeton, Adam Crawford, Mackenzee Crawford, and Jaydn Hatfield; also by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her dad, Dale Riegel; by her grandparents, George and Hazel Riegel and John and Elsie Rumans.
Funeral services will be held 10 AM Thursday, July 21, 2011 at the Church of the Nazarene, Moravia with Pastor Terry Chapman officiating. Friends may call all day Wednesday at the Lange Funeral Home, Moravia with the family present from 5:30pm until 9pm. Burial will be in the Unionville Cemetery, Unionville, Iowa. A memorial has been established to the family to be designated at a later date and may be left or mailed to the Lange Funeral Home, 103 North John St. Moravia, Iowa 52544.
