He grew up in the Promise City area attending Hickory Ridge Country School through the 8th grade. Junior was drafted into the Army on October 2, 1951 serving in the Korean War in the 87th Infantry Company C. He earned two bronze stars and the rank of Corporal before being honorably discharged in September 1953. He married Leta Jane Dyer on March 6, 1952. They were blessed with one son, Ronnie Neal born February 27, 1955. Junior had many jobs as a kid. On his birthday in 1953, after serving in the military, he started working for Lawrence Fry at Voltmaster Batteries. He spent 42 years at Voltmaster serving as overall plant supervisor for many years. He retired September 29, 1995. Junior loved animals and wildlife. He enjoyed farming, raising cattle, gardening, putting up hay with Ronnie, teaching Brad to drive the Farmall, going for drives to look for coyotes, playing cards, sitting on the front porch and waving at passers by, watching trains go by, ball games across the street, but his greatest love was coyote hunting! He mentored many young hunters taking them under his wing and sharing his passion for the sport and he always made sure to share candy with any kids hunting with him. Trent and Blake Moore were always among his favorites and they teased each other constantly. His passion (and dogs) passed on to his grandson, Brad. He loved to visit and have company. He will be greatly missed by many, many friends and family.
