June Etta Carter's Obituary
June Etta ( Vestal Leach) Carter, age 70 of Unionville, MO, formerly of Cincinnati, Iowa, died Monday, July 9, 2012 at Mercy Hospital, Des Moines, Iowa.
She was born February 13, 1942 in Cincinnati, Iowa, the daughter of Herbert and Wanda (Stuff) Vestal. June was raised in Cincinnati. She married Frank Leach on November 27, 1959. He preceded her in death in 1993. June later married John Carter on March 29, 2008 in Kansas City, Kansas.
In her early adult life June held numerous jobs, including the Baxter Box Company in Centerville. She later became a certified nurse's aide in the mid 1970s. Helping deliver infants and taking care of the elderly during her healthcare years was a passion for June. She later retired due to health reasons. June loved being around people and was definitely a ""people person."" She was a fun loving person that never met a stranger. Furthermore, her family described her as being a person that would ""give a stranger the shirt off her back."" June loved helping people from all walks of life. Most importantly, she loved spending time with her family. In her free time, her favorite hobby was dancing. If the music was playing, June was dancing. When she was younger June was a member of the Cincinnati Community Church in Cincinnati. She later attended the Rock Valley Church of God in Centerville.
She is survived by her husband, John Carter of Unionville, Missouri; five children, Elizabeth Jane (Reyes) Ponce of Hillsboro, Illinois, William Ervin Leach of Unionville, Missouri, Paul Allen Leach of Unionville, Missouri, Larry (Naomi) Leach of Kansas City, Kansas, and Lorretta (Roger) Quarles of Pittsburg, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Lupe Ponce of Illinois, Melinda (Tim) Korte of Highland, Illinois, Amanda Leach of Kirksville, Missouri, Heather Wattree of Shawnee, Kansas, R.J. Shondel of Olathe, Kansas, Sirena Leach Allerton, Iowa, and Andrew Leach of Centerville, Iowa; two step children; ten step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ethel (Earl) Buckallew of Overland Park, Kansas, and Reva Maurer of Centerville, Iowa; a brother Herbert Eugene (Sharon) Vestal of Kansas City, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Frank Leach; and a sister, Barbara Moorman.
Funeral services will be held 1 PM, Friday, July 13, 2012 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville, Iowa. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Cincinnati, Iowa. A visitation will be held at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory on Thursday from 12-8 PM, with the family present from 6-8 PM. A memorial has been established to the June Carter Memorial Fund and may be given to Lange Funeral Home, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa, 52544.
