Judith Arlene Brayton's Obituary
Judith Arlene (Armstrong) Brayton, age 82, of Centerville, Iowa, peacefully passed away on the evening of October 26, 2023 at her home.
Judy was born December 20th, 1940, in Moline, Illinois to Roland and Ethel Armstrong. After graduating United Township High School in East Moline, Illinois, Judy married John Brayton on June 14, 1958. After graduation, Judy worked for Iowa-Illinois Electric Co. until moving with her husband to Oregon for 18 months completing his military service. Between 1962 and 1976 Judy worked for Strombecker wooden toys and Bear Manufacturing Alignment equipment. In 1976, the family moved to Danville, Iowa. Judy became city clerk and served until moving to Centerville, Iowa, in 1990, where they lived in Golfview until her passing. There she worked for Chariton Valley RC&D until retiring twice, 2003 and 2012. After retiring she enjoyed her family and traveling, including a visit to all 50 states and several ocean cruises.
Judy and John took dance lessons while in Danville and enjoyed dancing every weekend in Burlington and traveling to ballroom dances around the country. Judy also loved reading and did some sewing.
Judy is survived by husband John, son Stephen, daughter Roberta Brayton Penn (Michael), brothers Robert (Joanne) Armstrong, Roger (Margaret) Armstrong, and Richard (Deb) Armstrong, sister Mary Katherine Hebert (Mike), granddaughters Jessica Penn, Rebecca Penn, and Lillian Penn, and great grandson Brayton Miller.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Roland and Ethel Armstrong.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday November 11, 2023 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa. Burial will be held at Haines Cemetery. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Cancer Society, and they may be mailed to Thomas Funeral Home, ATTN: Brayton Family, 501 North 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.
