Judi Hiatt's Obituary
Judi Bates Hiatt, age 68 of Numa, Iowa passed away Friday, December 30, 2016 at her home.
She was born on May 5, 1948 in Centerville, Iowa, the daughter of Litel and Doris (Conger) Bates. Judi grew up in Cincinnati, Iowa and attended both Cincinnati and Centerville Schools.
Judi was united in marriage to Larry Hiatt on July 11, 1981 at the East Pleasant Church of Christ in Cincinnati. Larry preceded her in death on September 1, 2015.
Judi worked for McGraw Edison in Centerville for several years until its closing. She subsequently accepted a job at Union Carbide in Centerville. Judi was a dedicated employee of Union Carbide/Viskase/Curwood for thirty eight years, retiring in 2006.
In her spare time she enjoyed many hobbies, including reading, cooking, playing cards, maintaining her vegetable and flower gardens, and most importantly, spending time with her grandchildren. As a devoted grandmother, Judi prided herself on the wellbeing of her grandchildren, especially the opportunity to cook for them. The grandkids never left her home on an empty stomach.
Judi was a long time member of the East Pleasant Church of Christ in Cincinnati.
She is survived by her children, Tamara 'Tami' Carel of Indianola, Iowa, Marty Wright of Centerville, Amber Wright-Jones of Centerville, Shelby Wright-Firth (Jerri Lynne Hamilton) of Centerville, and a step-son, Chad (Tygh) Hiatt of Canyon, Texas; a sister, Linda (Bill) Henderson of Centerville; ten grandchildren, Teigen Carel, Caitlyn (Josh) Bailey, Lenzi (Nathan) Robinson, Thatcher Carel, Hannah Long, Kage Jones, Quade Hiatt, Fisher Firth, Kross Hiatt, and Lola Jones.
Judi was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Larry Hiatt; and five brothers, Neil Bates, Litel Bates Jr., Richard Bates, Ronnie Bates, and Donnie Bates.
Funeral services will be held at 10 AM, Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville with Pastor Eric Hoover officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Cincinnati. A visitation will take place on Monday, January 2, 2017 at Lange Funeral Home, with the family greeting friends from 5-7 PM.
