Juanita "Dickie" Bartlett's Obituary
Juanita "Dickie" Bartlett, 93, of Seymour, passed away on February 9, 2019 at Gold Coast Hospice in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Dickie was born on June 16, 1925 in Lineville, Iowa to Everett and Hada (Landrum) McClain. After graduating high school, Dickie married Duane Turpen but the couple later divorced. She married Richard Bartlett on July 29, 1962 and remained married to him for 46 years until his passing. Dickie purchased Seymour Cleaners in 1950 and operated that until it later closed. Juanita and Richard then owned Bartlett's Market for several years. Richard was a longtime farmer but always helped Dickie with the store. On July 14, 1990, the couple were honored at Old Settler's with a "This is Your Life" tribute. It was a very special day for Dickie and Richard. In her spare time, she enjoyed: square dancing, movies, spending time with friends, (she was always very social!) Dickie also enjoyed contributing to her community, going to tractor pulls with her husband, Richard, keeping her yard tidy and wintering in Arizona. Dickie was the glue that held the family together. She always hosted the family gatherings and holiday celebrations. She will be missed by all that knew her. Dickie is survived by her sisters: Anita Grace McClain and Alyne Ann Clubb Patrico; nieces: Sharon Sebolt Vogel (Harold) and Teresa Gouveia; step-children: Kim Bartlett (Debbie) and Peggy Ratigan (Jerry) and step-grandchildren: Becky Feldman (Ben) and Jennifer Bartlett-Pauley (John) and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard; infant twin brothers: Bobbie and Billy McClain as well as brothers: Dean, Jack, Nate and Charles McClain; sister, Mary Louis Mullikin; niece, Jackie Gouveia; nephew, Jack Turpen and step-granddaughter, Emily. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 14, 2019 at Thomas Funeral Home in Seymour. Interment will immediately follow at Southlawn Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at Thomas Funeral Home in Seymour.
