Joyce Scott's Obituary
Joyce Elaine Peck Scott, age 90 died Sunday June 15, 2025 at Cornerstone Hospice & Palliative Care in The Villages, Florida. Her last days were spent with daily visits and phone calls from family and friends. She died peacefully and on her own terms.
Joyce was born November 3, 1934 the daughter of LaVern A. Peck and Ida Mae Robinson Peck in Portsmouth, VA. After her parents' death, she went to live with her grandparents Edward Peck and Maggie Cordelia Caster Peck in Mystic, IA, where she spent many a happy day with her cousins that she would reflect back often with love. Joyce graduated Mystic Iowa High School in 1953, and married John Harvey Scott in Centerville, IA on June 2, 1957. They had a son, John Harvey and a daughter Janell Elaine.
Following John Sr. career, they lived in several states around the country including Texas, Pennsylvania, and New York to name a few. When she retired, she was Co-owner and CEO of Superior/Omega Window Manufactures in Scranton, PA. Both John and Joyce moved to Maine to live with their daughter and her family for 20 years. The last year and a half of her life Joyce followed her daughter's family to The Villages, FL. after they retired. Joyce enjoyed spending time with her family, playing Bridge, playing the lottery and scratch-offs, enjoyed the stock market, and watching HGTV home shows.
Joyce is survived by her son: John H. Scott Jr. of Carbondale, Pennsylvania; daughter: Janell E. Murphy and son-in-law: Peter M. Murphy of The Villages, FL; granddaughter: Sarah A. Murphy of The Villages, FL; step grandson: Patrick M. Murphy and his wife Kristina Murphy of Elkhorn, WI; Nieces and nephews of her brother's: David Peck, Nancy Peck Boles, and Sharon Peck Creech; cousin: Pamela Riddick Winegarden and her husband Richard Winegarden.
Joyce was preceded in death by her sister: Violet Sharon Peck; mother: Ida Mae Robinson Peck; father: LaVern A. Peck Sr.; grandparents: Maggie Cordelia Caster Peck and Edward Peck; husband: John H. Scott Sr.; brother and sister-in-law: La Vern A. Peck Jr. and Beryle Peck; nephews: Jim Peck, Gary Peck; and cousins: Thomas E. Riddick, John Riddick; Patricia Riddick Clarke and Theresa Riddick Samuel; cousins: Nevill Cox, Lovell Cox, and Dorothy Cox Powders.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00AM, Friday, June 27, 2025 at Thomas Funeral Home, 501 N 18th St, Centerville, IA 52544. Friends may visit with family present an hour before services from 10:00AM-11:00AM at Thomas Funeral Home. Burial will follow the services at the Haines Cemetery in Rathbun, IA.
