Joyce E. Rush's Obituary
Joyce Ellen Rush, age 71 of Centerville, Iowa went to be with the Lord December 8, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center-Centerville.
Joyce was born October 8, 1937, the daughter of Garland and Mary (Coffin) Houser. On May 24, 1959 she married Wilbur Rush at the First Baptist Church in Centerville. Se was employed at I.S.U. in the payroll department in the late 50's but chose to be a full time housewife and mother when her children were born. Joyce was actively involved with many organizations. These groups were Mercy Hospital Auxiliary, P.E.O., T.T.T., M.X.L. United Methodist Women, Mary Circle and Dorcas Circle at First United Methodist Church where she served on the worship committee and sang in the choir. She was well known for her baking skills, especially brownies, and love to share them with family and friends. You could always count on a greeting card from her whenever it was needed. She also enjoyed sharing in grandson Tyler's activities.
Joyce is survived by her husband of 49 years Wilbur and 2 children James Rush of Bettendorf, Iowa, and Kae (Steve) Morgan of Centerville, Iowa, grandson Tyler Morgan of Centerville and brother Jerry (Glenna) Houser of Urbandale, Iowa. Sister-in-law Wilma Hellyer of Springfield, Missouri, a brother-in-law Wayne Phillips of Corydon, Iowa, Chester Anderson of Indianola, Iowa, and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Garland and Mary Houser, sister-in-laws, Elverda Phillips, Pauline Anderson, Arline Hawn, Janette Rush and brother-in-laws William Rush, Marvin Rush and Joe Hellyer.
She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Thursday, December 11, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church in Centerville with Pastor Terra Amundson officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. Ararat Cemetery near Centerville. A visitation will be held 10-11 AM Thursday prior to the service at the church and a luncheon following the burial. A memorial has been established to Susan G. Koeman, breast cancer research, or the First United Methodist Church and may be left at or mailed to the Lange Funeral Home, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa 52544.
