Joy Maxine Gooden's Obituary
Joy Maxine Gooden, age 79, of Centerville, Iowa, died Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville, Iowa. She was born on June 7, 1931 the daughter of Orval and Mildred (Conger) Moore and was raised with her step-mother, Creta Moore in Centerville, Iowa. She graduated from the Moulton High School in 1950.On September 2, 1950 in Lancaster, Missouri, Joy was united in marriage to Delbert E. Gooden. She was a homemaker, a member of the Eagles and part of the Royal Neighbors in Moulton, Iowa. Her family was the her pride and joy, she loved them all dearly. The last 2 years of her life, she was a resident at Centerville Nursing & Rehab, where she received great care from the staff as well as two special angels.She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, Delbert Gooden on July 26, 2005; a half brother, Warren Moore; and a great grandson, Dakota Davis.Joy is survived by: her sons, Randy Gooden and Rodney Gooden (Lila), all of Centerville, Iowa; and Ricky Gooden and his wife, Sandy, of Moulton, Iowa; daughters, Connie Gooden (Robbie) of Centerville, Iowa; Debbie Pettit and her husband, John, of Moulton, Iowa; Lori Graham and her husband, Vernon, of Cincinnati, Iowa; a brother, Marvin Moore of California; half sisters, Coralee Meusburger of Des Moines, Iowa and Twyla Casteel of Moulton, Iowa; grandchildren Missy Gooden, Shane Gooden, Lyndsay Oehler, Crystal Shaffer and Brandon Gooden all of Centerville, Eric Gooden and Farrah Gooden both of Des Moines, Iowa, Chris Graham of Lombard, Illinois and Cody Graham of Iowa City, Iowa; Jeff Steen and his wife, Jeannie, of Moulton, Iowa; Keith Steen and his wife, Kim, of Queen City, Missouri; Danny Gooden and his wife, Terese of Ottumwa, Iowa; Joni Lawler of Des Moines, Iowa; and Tara Gooden of San Cruz, California and Quinton Gooden of Des Moines, Iowa; along with 22 great-grandchildren.Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 29, 2010 at 10 AM at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Rev. Jerry Weller officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset View Cemetery north of Moulton, Iowa. A lunch with the family will be held at the Orleans Church following the graveside services. Visitation will be held open Thursday, April 28, 2011 with the family present from 6 pm until 8 pm at the funeral home.Memorials can be made to the Eagles Club and left or mailed to the funeral home.
