Joseph Soukup's Obituary
Joseph William Soukup, son of Leon and Joyce (Carradus) Soukup, was born November 11, 1976 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and passed away Saturday, September 17, at the age of 34. His childhood years were spent in Central City where he graduated from Central City High School in 1995. After high school Joseph attended Ellsworth Community College on a full ride scholarship to play football. He transferred to Morningside College and played football for one year and then attended Missouri Valley College with a rodeo scholarship and graduated with a business degree. He went on to get his masters degree from Lindenwood University while he was the Assistant Rodeo Coach at Missouri Valley College. Joe met the love of his life, Leslie Jones, at a Chris Ledoux concert at the National High School Rodeo in Gillette, Wyoming. Joe walked up to Luke Jones and said, 'How did you get that hot little number and how am I going to get her away from you?' Luke laughed and said, 'You can have her, she's my sister.' Joe married Leslie on June 8, 2000 in Allerton, Iowa. Joe enjoyed rodeo, shed hunting and spending time with his family. He was part of the Wayne County FSA Committee, IRCA, PRCA, and a faithful member of his church and on the Board of Directors for High School Rodeo. He also briefly taught as a college professor at Creston Community College and Indian Hills Community College. Joe owned and operated his own trucking business, convenience store, hunting lodge, as well as concession stands at the Iowa State Fair. He enjoyed driving for Hy-Vee part time and farming, which was his favorite. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Mildred Soukup, Francis and Jean Carradus, Bernita Carradus-Gallobit, an infant brother Daniel and grandparents - in-law Loyd and Mary Cawthorn and Howard and Naomi Jones. Left to cherish his memory is his wife Leslie of Allerton, three daughters Alex (18), Elie Joe (9) and Jolie (3) of Allerton, parents Leon and Joyce Soukup of Central City, sisters Tammy (Mike) Dougherty of Coggon, Sara (Brad) Lehr of Central City, and Katie (Jake) Stien of Waukee, and brother John Soukup of Cedar Rapids. Other survivors include his nieces and nephews, Tyler (Amanda) Dougherty, Megan and Siera Dougherty, two great nieces, mother and father-in-law Nancy and Jim Jones of Allerton and brother-in-law Luke (Erin) Jones and nephews Will, Cort, and Lane Jones.
