Joseph T. Luscan's Obituary
Joseph Thomas Luscan, Jr, age 68 of Centerville, Iowa went home to be with the Lord on Friday, July 27, 2007 at the Mercy Medical Center in Centerville, Iowa.
Joe was born on December 20, 1938 in Palo Alto, PA, son of Joseph Thomas and Elizabeth (Coonan) Luscan. He attended the Pottsville schools. Joe joined the United States Navy and began an exciting career that took him around the world. He especially loved living in Japan where he was able to climb Mt. Fuji twice. During the Vietnam Conflict he served two tours as a Combat Photographer and had several photos published in major newspapers in the US. He was a highly decorated veteran and always carried a great honor for his country. Joe was united in marriage to Karen Teater on October 12, 1968 in Tijuana, Mexico. He left the Navy in 1970 and moved to Centerville, IA where he owned Joe's Sinclair service before going to work with the US Corp of Engineers at Lake Rathbun. He retired from the Lake in 1992. Following his retirement he enjoyed fishing, gardening and taking family photos. In 1997 he began working for the Luscan Funeral Home in Unionville, MO until 2005. The last few years Joe really enjoyed raising tropical fish, roses and growing plants in his greenhouse and making and sharing his special homemade pickles. Joe accepted the Lord as his personal Savior during a Billy Graham Crusade, he attended the Solid Rock Church of God in Centerville and the Assembly of God in Unionville. He was a member of the Unionville American Legion, VFW and Disabled American Veterans. He was a loyal friend and a ""rock"" to his family. Joe was always ready to sit and listen to your concerns in a non-judgmental way. He will be greatly missed by family, friends, and all who knew him.
Joe is survived by his wife, Karen Luscan of Centerville, IA; his daughter, Denise Wagner of Centerville, IA; a son, Howard Luscan and his wife Heather of Unionville, MO; a son, Blake Luscan of Nebraska, his grandchildren whom he especially loved; Crystal Tracy of New Sharon, IA, Amber Tracy of Centerville, IA, Devon Jo and Kelsey Wagner of Centerville, IA and Derek and Joshua Luscan of Unionville, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother James Luscan.and his father and mother-in-law Howard and Franchon Teater and several aunts and uncles.
Funeral services will be held 10 AM, Monday, July 30, 2007 at the Thomas Lange Funeral Home in Centerville with Pastor Kris Wattelet and Pastor Gene Weece officiating. Burial will follow at the Oakland Cemetery, Centerville, IA. A visitation will be held Sunday with family present from 5-7 PM. A memorial has been established and may be left at or mailed to the Thomas Lange Funeral Home, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa, 52544.
