Joseph M. Green's Obituary
Joseph M. Green, age 64 of Moravia, Iowa passed away Monday, October 17, 2011 at his home.
He was born June 23, 1947 in Indianola, Iowa, the son of Jack and Deloris Green. After graduating from high school, Joe enlisted in the United States Army. He served his country faithfully from 1966-1968. During his military career he earned the national defense service medal, as well as the sharpshooter badge m-14. Joe was honorably discharged from the Army with the rank SP5.
Joe married Cheryl Ballinger on August 23, 1969 in Des Moines, Iowa. He was employed as a commercial carpenter with Allied Construction in Des Moines for thirty one years. Joe was a member of the Carpenter's Local Union # 106.
When he wasn't working in carpentry Joe enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. Most importantly, he loved the time that he was able to spend with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Cheryl Green of Moravia, Iowa; two children, Tracey (Jamie) Byers and Stacy Green both of Des Moines, Iowa; two grandchildren, Jamie (Jr.) and Sara Byers of Des Moines; four sisters, Barbara (Don) Seymour of Columbia, Missouri, Judy (Rod) Page of Pocahontas, Illinois, Cindy (Greg) Bellman of Indianola, Iowa, and Ona (Wayne) Lovell of Des Moines, Iowa; and three brothers, Garry (Leah) Green of San Jose, California, Steve (Sheila) Green of Golden, Colorado, and Kelly (Rhonda) Green of Indianola, Iowa.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents.
According to Joe's wishes, he has been cremated and there will be a visitation held in his honor at Lange Funeral Home in Moravia, Iowa from 4-7 PM on Thursday, October 20, 2011. A private burial of cremains with military honors will be held in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Iconium Methodist Church and may be left at Lange Funeral Home. Condolences may be shared online at www.langefh.com.
