Joseph J. Belloma's Obituary
Joseph Belloma, age 93 of Centerville, Iowa passed away Monday, August 25, 2014 at his home with his family members at his side.
Joe was born August 2, 1921 to Frank and Lucy (Lamantia) Belloma in East Chicago, Indiana. His family moved to Centerville when he was a young child.
He attended Centerville Schools, along with working by his father's side in the coal mines. On January 27, 1943 he entered the United States Army as a cannoneer, serving in the northern portion of Normandy, France. While in Europe, he met the love of his life, Micheline. Joe brought her to the United States and they were married June 28, 1947.
Joe enjoyed fishing, watching his sons and grandchildren play sports, bowling and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed keeping up on his yard, especially his meticulous care for his flowers. Joe and Micheline enjoyed spending many years together with friends at the Eagles located on the levy in Centerville.
Joe, along with brothers Bennie and Sammy, owned Belloma Fruit Grocery Store. Joe worked in the store, as well as he traveled the United States by truck hauling fruit to countless customers. He also drove a truck for Pillsbury and Cossolotto Ready Mix. Joe was also employed as a meat cutter with Rosenbaum Grocery Store. At the end of his working career, he worked with the health department filling wells.
He is survived by two daughters, Mary (Larry) Shondel and Nancy (Steve) Ruby both of Centerville, Iowa; four sons, Frank (Diane) Belloma, Jack Belloma and Tom (Donna) Belloma all of Centerville, Iowa, and Jim (Sharon) Belloma of Des Moines, Iowa; eleven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and eight great, great grandchildren; his sister, Anne Greene; and a brother, Donny (Betty) Belloma.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Micheline; his parents; sisters, Josephine Ranes and Mary Mitchell; brothers, Bennie, Johnny and Sammy Belloma; a daughter-in-law, Linda Belloma; and a great, great grandson, Dylon Hinojosa.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Friday, August 29, 2014 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville with Reverend Brad Dittmer officiating. Interment with military rites will follow in the Oakland Cemetery in Centerville. A visitation will be held all day Thursday at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory with the family greeting friends from 6-8 PM.
