To this union came three children: Kim, Susan and Aaron. Johnnie became a member of the volunteer fire department in Princeton at the age of 18. He continued serving the community with his fire service for 40 plus years. For 18 years he was the fire chief for the Corydon Fire Department, retiring in 2007. He and Wanda together owned and operated a grocery store and a restaurant. In 1998, he and Wanda then purchased Bowling Green Lanes and ran it together until 2017. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and loved to eat popcorn. Johnnie had a passion for bowling and he was a three time proud member of the 300 club. During his retirement he passed the time working as a driver for several Amish families, who became his family too. He loved helping his community and volunteering. He was the "voice of the Falcons", announcing for home football games for many years. His voice could also be heard announcing at the local parades. He served on the Wayne Community School Board and was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Lions Club for several years. Johnnie could often be seen helping groups and organizations in the community raise money by pulling his smoker around the area and smoking meats for them to sell. He loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren very much. He loved to pick on them and tell them jokes; modified nursery rhymes were his specialty.
