John Allen Wilson's Obituary
John Allen Wilson, 80 of Sycamore died Sunday, February 12, 2012 at his home. He was born June 28, 1931 in rural Monroe County Iowa. He was the second son born to Frank and Ruth Wilson on the family farm near Moravia, IA. Here he grew up, went to school, married and started farming with his Dad. In 1958, he began a 35 year career in the Farm Supply Business. He married his high school sweetheart, Annabelle Walter on June 3, 1951. They had two children, Neal and JoAnne. Together they moved to Wisconsin and then to Illinois with the same company. Shortly after moving to Sycamore, John joined the service organization, Kiwanis. He served his local Club, his Division and District with distinction. He and Annabelle attended 14 International Kiwanis Conventions, two of which were held in Europe. He as a Kiwanis Fellow and a member of the Hixson Foundation. His Club bestowed him with the Tablet of Honor, their highest award. He remained an active member for 39 years. In 2005, John gave the Illinois-Iowa District his International Pin Collection for display. In 1996, John was elected to the DeKalb County Board. During his two, four year terms, he was appointed as Chairman of a major committee and was Vice Chairman of the Board his last two years. John was baptized as an infant in the Grace Methodist Church in Moravia, IA. He was converted in that church in 1953. He served on the Iowa-Des Moines Youth Cabinet for three years and later taught Sunday School for 19 years. John and Annabelle have stayed true to the Methodist Church and have served in many capacities throughout their 60 years of married life. After retirement, John and Annabelle continued their long time habit of RV travel. They began doing National Quilt Shows for their daughter's business. This allowed them to continue a lifelong urge to travel and the opportunity to spend the winter in warmer climes. John was instrumental in organizing the 100th Wilson Family reunion held in August 2009. John is survived by his loving wife, Annabelle; son, Neal Allen; daughter JoAnne Louis and her husband, Jeffry; their two children, Johnny and Jessica; two brothers, James and Paul, their wives and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his Father in 1982 and his Mother in 1984. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4:00-7:00 PM at the Sycamore United Methodist Church, 160 Johnson Ave. in Sycamore. His Funeral Service will be on Thursday, Feb. 16 at 2:00 PM at the Church, with Rev. Bill Landis officiating. A Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the Service at the Church on Thursday. On Saturday, Feb. 18th a Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM-1:00 PM at the Lange Funeral Home, 103 N. John St., Moravia, IA, with a Graveside Service to follow at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Moravia.
