John William West's Obituary
John William West, age 79, of Cincinnati, passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, Missouri.
John was born on August 24, 1942 in Centerville, Iowa, the son of Bill and Marie (Clayworth) West. He graduated from Cincinnati High School with the Class of 1960. Following high school, John faithfully served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged on May 31, 1970. On January 13, 1967, John was united in marriage to Linda Sue Harvey in Unionville, Missouri. They spent 25 wonderful years together until she passed away.
John worked road construction and John Deere in Ottumwa for a period of time. He owned and operated Johns Standard Station in Cincinnati for years. John also hauled gas for Gerald Irelan for several years. For the duration of his working career, John drove a semi-truck, while also owning and operating numerous semis until his retirement. Moreover, John and Linda West were also co-owners with John and Donna Cossolotto of West Grocery Store in Cincinnati.
John was a kind and gentle man, who loved spending time with his family and friends. He was known to joke around often to make sure he put a smile on someones face. John enjoyed camping, smoking meats, car shows and tinkering around in the garage in his spare time.
Left to honor Johns memory are his daughter, Sue (Randy) Smith of Princeton, Missouri; sisters, Mary (Lyle) Warren of Cincinnati, Sharon (Ron) Snider of Cincinnati, and Norma Maddex of Kansas City, Missouri; two brothers-in-law, John Cossolotto of Cincinnati and Jim (Deb) Harvey of Oxford, Iowa; two grandchildren, Ethan Smith and Dakota Smith both of Princeton, Missouri; his beloved dog and loyal companion, Bandit; as well as nieces, nephews, and several extended family and friends.
