John E. "Babe" Walag's Obituary
John 'Babe' E. Walag, age 80, of Mystic, Iowa, died Sunday, January 30, 2005, at Centerville Nursing & Rehab Center in Centerville, Iowa. He was born the son of Vincent and Sophia (Foliva) Walag on April 19, 1924 in Mystic, Iowa. He graduated from the Mystic Community Schools.On September 23, 1969, John was united in marriage to Della Christian at the Little Flock Chapel near Plano, Iowa. He served his country during WWII with the US Army from October 1944 until his honorable discharge in November of 1946. John was a rural letter carrier for the United States Postal Service for many years. While carrying mail, he also owned and operated a Filling Station in Mystic from 1951 until 1972 and later was a mechanic for Jack Morris Motors in Centerville, Iowa.John was preceded in death by: his parents and a sister, Victoria Kennis.He is survived by: his wife, Della Walag of Mystic, Iowa; sons, Scott Walag of Mystic, Mike Walag of Des Moines, Iowa and Mark Walag of Omaha, Nebraska; brother, Stanley Walag of California; grandchildren, Tyler, Katie, Andy, Mathew and Lauren Walag; 2 step grandchildren, Sarah and Gena.Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 2, 2005 at 11:30 am at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Fr. Ron Will officiating. Burial with full military honors by the Mystic American Legion will be conducted at the Highland Cemetery near Mystic, Iowa.Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 from 1 pm until 8 pm at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with the family present from 6 till 8 pm at the funeral home.
