John 'Johnny' George Tagliapietra's Obituary
John "Johnny" Tagliapietra, age 82, of Exline, Iowa passed away Friday, September 24, 2021 at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines.
He was born in Centerville, Iowa on February 10, 1939, the son of Martin and Rose (Lazzaretto) Tagliapietra. Johnny graduated from Centerville High School in 1959.
Following his high school education, Johnny began a career in the newspaper industry as a linotype operator. He worked for a variety of newspapers for a period of time until he accepted a position with McGraw Edison in Centerville. Johnny eventually went to work for Young Radiator in Centerville, a job he maintained for an estimated eleven years. Never losing his love for the newspaper industry, the Iowegian in Centerville became Johnnys final place of employment until his retirement.
Johnny enjoyed numerous hobbies throughout his lifetime, including gardening, yardwork and listening to music, especially Elvis and anything country. Most importantly, he loved spending time with his family, especially family function gatherings. Johnny was a longtime active member of the St. Marys Catholic Church in Centerville.
Left to cherish his memory include his sister, Rose (Bill) Cunningham of Centerville, Iowa; four nieces and nephews, Susan (Tony) Rider of Knoxville, Iowa, Martin Cunningham (Deceased), Deborah Eddy (Mark-Deceased) of Centerville, Iowa, and Joseph (Latisha) Cunningham of Chariton, Iowa; as well as many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Rose Tagliapietra; as well as many aunts and uncles.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM, Friday, October 1, 2021 at St. Marys Catholic Church in Centerville with Father Timothy Armbruster officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakland Cemetery, Centerville. A visitation will take place on Friday, October 1, 2021 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville from 9 AM-10:30 AM. A Prayer Service will be conducted on Friday at the funeral home from 9:15-9:30AM, with the family receiving friends immediately following the service until 10:30. A memorial has been established to the St. Marys Catholic Church and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa, 52544.
