John H. Scott's Obituary
John H. Scott, age 87, of Falmouth, Maine, formerly of Centerville, Iowa, passed away Saturday, November 25, 2017at Avita of Stroudwater in Westbrook, Maine.
John was born on October 21, 1930 the son of Anna L and John G Scott inCenterville, Iowa. He graduated from Centerville High School with the class of 1948 and Centerville Junior College in 1950, before furthering his education atMissouri State University, graduating with his Bachelors degree in 1956.
John married his wife of 60 years, Joyce E. Peck in June of1957 at the First United Methodist Church in Centerville. They had a beautiful celebration this year to celebrate all 60 of those years.
After schooling, John worked for Maytag in Newton Iowa, Sylvania Electric in Centerville, Arthur Young & Co. in Tulsa Oklahoma, Cheyenne Oil in Wichita Falls, Texas, Chamberlain Mfg Co. in both Iowa and New York, and Kensington Mfg Co in Leesburg, PA, as a controller for many companies, frequently moving them from the red to the black. His wife then told him that if he could do it for them, he should do it for himself. Together, they bought Superior/Omega Inc. in Scranton PA, making it a very successful company for the next 20 years. John is also a member of the National Rifle Association and the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce; son, John Scott Jr., daughter Janell E. Murphy and her husband Peter; two grandchildren, Sarah and Patrick Murphy; and one niece, Linda Phillys Schmidt.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Opal Phillips.
Funeral services will be held at 10AM, Thursday, November 30, 2017 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville with Pastor Lloyd Johnston officiating. A visitation will take place one hour prior to the funeral service from 9-10AM, Thursday, November 30, 2017 at Lange Funeral Home in Centerville. Interment will follow the services at Haines Cemetery, north of Centerville. Memorials have been established to Haines Cemetery, and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 South 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.
