John Lynn McCarty's Obituary
John McCarty, age 69, passed away on March 28, 2023, at Mercy One Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. John was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many.
Born on August 3, 1953, John was the son of Howard and Estel (Ward) McCarty. He married his high school sweetheart, Jeralee (O'Dell) McCarty, on November 24, 1974, and together they raised two children, Jeremy John and Jennifer Marie.
John spent his career working in the maintenance department at the milk plant in Allerton, Iowa, where he worked for 31 years until his retirement. He was a hard worker who took pride in his job and valued the relationships he formed with his colleagues.
Outside of work, John had many passions. He loved spending time outdoors, whether it was fishing, hunting, or trapping. He was also an avid gardener and had a green thumb that was the envy of many. John was known for his spectacular vegetable gardens and always enjoyed sharing his bounty with friends and family.
John had a love for music. Throughout the years he would often be heard singing along to his favorite songs. John also enjoyed dancing and was known for his skills on the dance floor.
John was a dedicated coach to some of the best youth baseball teams in southern Iowa. He had a heart for coaching young athletes and inspiring them to be their best selves both on and off the field. John was also an exceptional fast-pitch softball player and pitcher, and he played for many years with a group of close friends.
John will be deeply missed by his son Jeremy (Julie) McCarty, his daughter Jennifer (Mitch) Cashatt, and his three grandchildren, Estelle, Ireland, and Boone Cashatt. He was also a loving dog owner and is survived by his furry companions, Izzy and Buddy. John leaves behind many extended family members and friends, from the kids he coached to all of his softball buddies.
John was preceded in death by his wife Jeralee, his parents, grandparents, and in-laws. His legacy lives on in the memories of those who knew him and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks memorials be made to "Giving Back Outdoors".
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30AM on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at Thomas Funeral Home- Corydon with CJ McMurry officiating. Interment will be at a later date.
