John Matheny's Obituary
John Henry Matheny, 85 of Exline passed away Sunday, December 6, 2020 at Mercy One in Des Moines. John was born to John Cobb & Plinie Harper Matheny on January 29, 1935 in Breman , Kentucky. John was a veteran of the United States Army Corp, serving during the Korean War. He worked as a supervisor for Fermilab before retiring in 1998. John married Ruth Fisher on May 25, 1990. John enjoyed gardening, quilting, fishing, watching western shows, spending time with his special friend, Patricia DeVore and loved socializing with people. John was very involved in his community and loved what became his home in Exline. Survivors include his children: Robert Risley (Linda), Angela Matheny (Del Rich), Cynthia Anderson (Bill), John Michael Matheny, Melody Matheny, 20 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, siblings: Ray Thomas (Dora Lee), Ruth Rust(Bobby ), Connie Cornette(Joe ), Sue Dunn, Evelyn Stobaugh , Opal Woodruff (Jimmy ),Martine Roper, Joyce Griffin (Leaman) and numerous extended family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Matheny on October 9, 2015, parents, daughter Crystal Salas, grandaughter Mary Gibson, siblings: JB Harper,Lucy Cobb,Joe Harper,Ruby Rickard, Dorothy Boyle,Ernestine Dossette and Jane Sizemore. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Thursday, December 10, 2020 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville with interment immediately following at Exline Cemetery. The family will be present one hour prior to the service. Visitation without family present will be Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville from 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM.
