John Mason's Obituary
John Mason, age 85, of Moulton, Iowa, died Saturday, April 7, 2007 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. He was born the son of Walter William and Jessie (Stair) Mason on January 6, 1922 near Paola, Kansas. He graduated from Stet Community Schools in Stet, Missouri. He later attended and received a math teacher certificate from McPherson College in McPherson, Kansas. John spent time working for Civil Public Service in both Maryland and Michigan during WWII. On January 11, 1948, he was united in marriage to Blanche Dubbs in Wakarusa, Indiana. In 1960 John moved his family from Stet, Missouri to the Fairview Church community to improve his farming opportunities where he settled northeast of Moulton, Iowa. After his retirement, John helped restore two antique tractors and built several pieces of furniture from lumber harvested from his farm.John's life goals were the Christian upbringing of his children and pursuit of Christian service. He was a member of the Fairview Church of the Brethren near Udell, Iowa where he served as Deacon, Church Board member, church treasurer for many years and also taught adult Sunday School.He is preceded in death by: his parents; brothers, Roy and Floyd Mason and a sister, Irene Penny.John is survived by: his wife, Blanche Mason of Moulton, Iowa; three sons, Bill Mason of Albia, Iowa, Ron Mason and his wife, Diane of Moulton, Iowa, Dan Mason and his wife, JoAnna of McPherson, Kansas; a daughter Sarah Jean Schmitter, and her husband, Bill, of Queen City, Missouri; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at 11 am at the Fairview Church of Brethren near Udell, Iowa with Rev. Carl Heien officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 9, 2007 from 4 pm until 8 pm at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with the family present from 6 pm till 8 pm at the funeral home.Memorials can be made to the Fairview Church of the Brethren and can be left at the funeral home.
