John Knight's Obituary
John Knight, 73, of Peoria, Illinois, passed away on August 10, 2014 at St. Francis Medical Center surrounded by family. John was born to William and Martha (Martin) Knight on January 23, 1941 in Unionville, Missouri. He was raised with a brother and sister in rural Putnam County. John received his education from Livonia High School graduating in 1959. He would further his education at Kirksville State Teachers College graduating in 1962. John would later obtain his Master*s Degree from Colby College in Waterville, Maine. On April 7, 1961 he married Patricia Stokes. John was employed as a teacher then as a principal for East Peoria Elementary School District #86. He retired May 1994 after 32 years. He served for several years as a deputy in the Tazewell County Auxiliary Police. John also worked for the Fon Du Lac Park Police in East Peoria, Illinois, where he served as an officer and as chief for many years. John enjoyed farming, fishing and hunting, especially for quail, reading and spending time with his grandchildren. He was an active member of the National Rifle Association and Illinois State Rifle Association. John was one of the first Hunter Safety Instructors for the Illinois Dept. of Natural Resources. John is survived by his wife, Patricia; two sons Jeff (Poleane) Knight of East Peoria, IL and Scott (Teresa) Knight of Kimberly, ID; four grandchildren, Janel Knight and Cassie Knight both of East Peoria, IL, Cameron Knight and Connor Knight both of Kimberly, ID; sister Bea (Jim) Hamilton of Kirksville, MO; sister-in-law, Rose Knight of Plano and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded by his parents and brother Tony Knight. A family graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m., Thursday, August 14, 2014 at Martinstown Cemetery in Martinstown, Missouri. Memorials may be given to American Diabetes Association, National Rifle Association or American Cancer Society.
