John Fry's Obituary
John Myrl Fry of Corydon passed away peacefully in his home on November 14, 2025. He was born August 6, 1955 to Don and Jean Fry. He joined older brother, Tom, and was joined later by his sister, Jane. John graduated from Wayne Community High School in 1973. After graduating High School, he attended Iowa State University. During this time, he married Carol Coates, and to this union two children were born: Stacy Jo and Lucas James. John later remarried.
John was raised on the Fry family farm and farmed many years with his brother, dad, and grandpa. John felt very lucky to have lived only one-half mile from his grandparents, Ruth and Myrl, where he spent much of his free time. John ran cattle with his brother, Tom, until his retirement. John and Stacy shared a love for 4H; he was Stacy’s 4H leader and a gracious supporter of the county fair and local community. John spent many years as an agent for Farm Bureau insurance, helping individuals and families, ensuring they were well cared for especially during difficult times. His dedication to his work allowed him to travel all over the world. He was one of the top producers in Iowa. John never met a stranger in life; he could relate to anyone on any level.
John competed in football, basketball, track, and baseball at Wayne. He enjoyed coaching Stacy and Luke’s ball teams while they were growing up. When he became a grandpa, he enjoyed helping his grandchildren with sports as well. He had so many great memories with the kids playing catch in the front yard and shooting hoops in the barn. His competitive nature was passed down to both Stacy and Luke.
John was an avid outdoorsman. His favorite season was fall, which meant football and hunting season. Many of you here today will smile remembering the deer parties that John hosted annually the Thursday night before the opening weekend of shotgun season. John also enjoyed the annual April tree planting days, where friends and family planted thousands of trees each year. Hunting was a passion he passed down to his son, Luke, and grandson, Jack at a young age. Luke and his dad never missed a hunting season together. In the words of John Myrl Fry, better known as JMF, “Let’s go huntin’!”
John is survived by his children Stacy (Blake) Glenn and Luke (Wendy) Fry and grandchildren Caroline and Jack Glenn, Hayden Fry, and Jamison and Audika Visser; brother Tom (Kay) Fry, sister Jane (Jeff) Burroughs. He is also survived by extended family member Tim Wells and his daughter Rylee Wells.
John was preceded in death by his parents Don and Jean Fry, grandparents Myrl and Ruth Fry, Grandmother Hildur Davison.
