John ""J.D."" Downard's Obituary
John Douglas ""J.D."" Downard, age 66 of Moravia, Iowa, passed away Thursday, July 30, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville, Iowa.
John was born August 19, 1948 in Fairfield, Iowa, the son of Dale and Edna (Turner) Downard. He graduated from Moravia High School in 1967.
Following high school graduation, J.D. moved to Knoxville, Iowa, where he took a position in the laundry department at the Veterans Administration Hospital. In 1986, he moved back to Moravia to be near his family.
J.D. worked over fourteen years for Billy Ragan. He also enjoyed working many long hours on the family farm. In his free time, J.D. loved attending various music shows. Most importantly, he was devoted to his family and cherished the time he spent with them.
He is survived by his mother, Edna Downard of Moravia, Iowa; as well as many dear friends. J.D. was preceded in death by his father, Dale.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm, Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at Lange Funeral Home in Moravia, Iowa with Pastor Dennis Doud officiating. Burial will follow in the Haines Cemetery, north of Centerville. A visitation will take place at the funeral home on Monday, from 10 am-8 pm, with the Downard Family greeting friends from 6-8 pm. In lieu of flowers, an open memorial has been established in John's name and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa, 52544.
