John Joseph Cinkovich's Obituary
John Joseph Cinkovich, age 89, of Centerville, Iowa died Thursday, May 15, 2008 at his home in Centerville.
John was born May 17, 1918, the son of Stephan and Anna (Raskie) Cinkovich in Wisconsin. He attended St. Mary's Catholic School in Centerville. John worked in the coal mines for several years. Following the conclusion of the CC Camps, he enlisted in the United States Navy. John served five years in the Navy and was stationed in Africa during WWII. John loved fishing, hunting, gardening, playing his accordion, picking walnuts in the Fall, and eating ice cream.
John is survived by five sisters, Delores (Tom) Cortesio of Centerville, Iowa, Lu Cinkovich of Centerville, Iowa, Ann Wika of Chicago, Illinois, Helen Erasmus of Chicago, Illinois, and Kay Matuzewski of Chicago, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents; six brothers, Andrew, Chuck, Frank, Fabian, Emil and Max; three sisters, Mary, Bea, and Rosalie.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be held 10 AM, Monday, May 19, 2008 at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centerville, Iowa with Fr. Joe Nassal C. PP.S. officiating. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Centerville. A visitation will be held from 12-8 PM on Sunday at the Thomas Lange Funeral Home in Centerville with the family present from 6-8 PM. A Rosary Service will begin at 6 PM. A memorial has been established to Centerville Community Betterment or the St. Mary's Catholic Church and may be left at or mailed to the Thomas Lange Funeral Home, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa 52544.
