Joe D. Tunnell's Obituary
Joe David Tunnell, age 78, of Plano, Iowa, died Thursday, September 17, 2015 at his home in Plano. He was born the son of Guy D. and L. Sylvia (Lee) Tunnell on August 20, 1937 in Mystic, Iowa. ;He graduated from the Centerville Community High School in 1955.On October 18, 1959, Joe was united in marriage to Dorothy J. Kernes in DeWitt, Iowa. He served his country for over two years with the US Army and was honorably discharged. He started working for Burlington-Northern Railroad and would spend over 37 years working in various positions. At the time of his retirement he was Vice President of the western region. After his retirement, they moved to Climax Springs, Missouri where he became a firefighter and an EMT. After a short time, became the Fire Chief and was overseeing 5 Fire Stations. He was a Lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge in Climax Springs, a member of the Eastern Star, the Odd Fellow and a member of the Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife, Dorothy Tunnell on May 26, 1999; brothers, Charles Tunnell, Paul L. Tunnell, Glen E. Tunnell, Guy J. Tunnell and James W. Tunnell; and an infant sister, Leola F. Tunnell. Joe is survived by: his sister, Judith Miller and her husband, Dennis of Plano, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Cozette Tunnell of Snowhomish, Washington; along with many nieces and nephews.Graveside funeral services will be held at 1 pm, Thursday, September 24, 2015 at the Allee Cemetery south of Camdenton, Missouri. Burial will follow the service. Memorials can be made in his name to New Hope Counseling Center of Centerville, Iowa and left or mailed to the funeral home.
