Joe Hayes' Obituary
Joe D. Hayes, 83 of Moravia entered in to his new life Saturday, March 15, 2025 at his home, east of Moravia, Iowa.
Joe was born to Bernard & Margaret (Gibson) Hayes who were also of Moravia on April 23, 1941. He attended grade school in Appanoose County and graduated from Moravia High School.
Joe was united in marriage to Marcella Moore of Centerville in August of 1964. To this union came two children: Jolene and Jimmy. Joe grew up and farmed his entire life east of Moravia, Iowa. He also operated a body/mechanic shop on the farm.
Joe enjoyed coon hunting, coyote hunting and always had a faithful hound by his side. Joe also had a passion for sharing/preaching the gospel of our lord and savior Jesus Christ. He started the House of Prayer Church in Centerville, Iowa in 2001 and ministered to many in nursing homes and hospitals. Joe never took himself to seriously, he always had a smile and a little sarcasm. Jow will be sorely missed by many people in Appanoose County, Iowa.
Survivors include his wife, Marcella Hayes, children: Jolene Hayes, Jimmy Hayes (Michelle), grandchildren: Mahlia Henderson, Bradley Piatt, Megan Gerber (Nate) and numerous extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Larry Hayes.
Graveside service will be 2:00 pm, Thursday, March 20, 2025 at Sales Cemetery near Moravia with Pastor Dennis Doud officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 19, 2025 at Thomas Funeral Home - Centerville with present from 5:00 - 7:00 PM. Memorials may be given to the family which will be designated at a later date.
