Joanna Mitchell's Obituary
Joanna Mitchell, daughter of Italian immigrant and coalminer, Guiseppe (Tony) Antonio Sebben and Maria Sebben was born on December 31,1931 in Seymour, Iowa. On August 12, 2011 the angels ever so gently carried her home to be with the Lord. Joanna graduated from Seymour Community Schools in 1949. She was always proud of the Seymour girls' basketball team and liked to reminisce about the Seymour glory days of basketball. She attended AIC in Davenport, Iowa for 2 years. Upon graduation she moved back to Seymour and worked in the Wayne County Engineer's office. On April 21, 1956 Joanna was united in marriage to Dewayne Keith Mitchell. They made their home in Seymour and to this union were born 4 children. Joanna was proud of her Italian heritage. She enjoyed the many family get-togethers at her grandfather's home. Her aunts and uncles and their families held a special place in her heart. She was fond of her classmate and dear friend Martha Johnson. She considered Martha as her sister. They were neighbors for many years. She enjoyed rooting for the Chicago Cubs, watching western TV shows, and dining out at George and Nicks. Joanna always looked forward to her weekly visit out to Jean's Beauty Shop. Joanna's grandchildren were her pride and joy. She loved spending time with them, and always looked forward to the next visit from them. Her grandchildren's and great grandchildren's pictures are found throughout her home. Joanna was a loyal supporter of Seymour athletics. She attended many of her grandchildren's events. Her parents preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband Keith, who lovingly cared for her throughout their 55 years of marriage; brother Joseph Sebben and wife Virginia of Odessa, Missouri; sons: Terry and wife Nina of Plano, Larry of Seymour, David and wife Kara of Indianola, and daughter Anna Bratz and husband Todd of Centerville; 10 grandchildren: Krista Tuttle, Tony Mitchell, Lindsy Peck, Paige, Logan, Lucas, and Gabrielle Mitchell, Brooke, R.T., and Courtney Bratz and many great grandchildren. By her wishes Joanna was cremated. Visitation will be held Thursday, August 18th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Randolph Funeral Home in Seymour. Graveside services will be officiated by Pastor Michael McKissick on Friday, August 19th at 10:30 a.m. at Southlawn Cemetery in Seymour. Graveside services will be open to all family and friends. The family suggests contributions to the Seymour Community High School Athletic Fund and to the National Alzheimer's Association. Joanna will be sorely missed by her family and friends.
