Joan Tuttle's Obituary
Oleta "Joan" Tuttle, 84, of Cambria, passed away on July 1, 2017 at her son's residence in Clio. Joan was born on April 10, 1933 outside of Garden Grove to the late Joseph and Darlene (Erb) Cashatt. After graduating Cambria High School, Joan married John Tuttle on February 14, 1950 in Corydon and to this union, five children were born. Joan owned and operated "Joan's Caf" in Millerton for 34 years. After retirement, she still continued to help out at the restaurant as much as she could. Joan was known for her wonderful pie baking abilities! She was happiest when she was in the kitchen cooking and baking. She also enjoyed coloring, taking care of people and spending time with her family (especially around the Christmas holiday.) Joan was awarded the "Good Neighbor" award and was also interviewed by the Des Moines Register regarding her restaurant. Joan is survived by her son, John (Cathy) Tuttle of Clio; daughter, Carolyn Jean (David) Baker of Garden Grove; brother, Chuck (Gladys) Erb of Leon; sisters: Carolyn (Gene) Hockensmith of Des Moines, Joyce Dainty of Carlisle, Dee (Bill) Slagg of Humeston and Tammy (John) Clark of Afton; grandchildren: Chris (Mona) Baker of Corydon, Carrie (John) Clark of Corydon, Justin (Shannon) Baker of Shawnee, Kansas, Tina (Robert) Davis of Allerton, Jay (Heather) Tuttle of Clio, Olivia Tuttle of Clio, Jason (Laura) Tuttle of Ames, Chance Trumper of Humeston, Jennifer (Lance) Wilson of Mercer, Missouri, Jona West (Kyle Gall) of Des Moines and Jessica (Dusty) Hysell of Allerton; 29 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; daughters: Judy Hamilton, Jolene Tuttle and Janice West; grandson, Josh Hamilton; brother, Richard Erb and sister, Marcena Reed. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 7, 2017 at Thomas Funeral Home in Corydon. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at Thomas Funeral Home in Corydon. A private family interment will be held at a later date in the Cambria Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Care Initiatives Hospice or Cambria Baptist Church.
