Joan Grismore's Obituary
Joan Grismore of Corydon passed away on July 1, 2021.
Graveside service and interment will be held on Monday, July 5, 2021 at 1:30 p.m. at the Corydon Cemetery.
Joan was born on December 17, 1931 to Ernest (Battler) and Elsa (Susie) Grismore. Battler was a lifelong Wayne County resident, as was Joan. She helped run their family business (the Grismore Motel), which Battler started in 1929, until it was sold in 1992. While helping to run the motel, Joan also worked for and retired from the telephone company which later became CenturyLink.
Joan had one sister, Margaret Louise (who passed away in 1975) and a brother-in-law, Daryl Hobbs (who passed away in 2014). To Louise's four children (Terry Hobbs, Denise Coyne, Julie Kirby and Mary Hobbs), Joan was beloved "Aunt Jo". Jo loved being with Daryl and his second wife Vicki, and her nephew and nieces, whenever she could. With the family mostly living in Missouri, Jo was determined later in her adult life that she needed to get her driver's license, so that she could travel independently to more family gatherings.
In addition to being a dedicated and generous aunt, Jo was a voracious reader, active First Christian Church member and lover of dogs and basketball, especially watching the NBA on TV.
