Jo Moffitt's Obituary
Mary Josephine "Jo" Moffitt, age 99, of Mystic, Iowa, passed away on November 20, 2017 in Centerville. Jo was born on December 25, 1917 near Moravia, Iowa to the late Edgar Roy and Pearl May Scott. After graduating Moravia High School in 1934, she married Delmont Theodore Moffitt in 1937 and to this union, three daughters were born. Jo and Delmont lived on a farm near Mystic where they raised chickens, hogs, dairy cattle and later, Angus beef cattle. In the 1960's and 1970's, she was Delmont's secretary during the terms that he served on the Iowa House of Representatives. In addition to being a wonderful homemaker, Jo was an excellent cook, gardener, woodworker and seamstress (which included knitting, cross stitch and crochet.) She was also well known throughout the community for her quilting and weaving skills--having made numerous rugs and baskets. Jo was very active in the community. She was a 4-H club leader and served on the 4-H Committee and County Extension Council. She was a member of North Bend Ladies Aid, Weaver's Guild and participated in Women's Fellowship and Sewing Circle at Drake Avenue Christian Church. Jo is survived by her daughters: Nancy Jo (Bob) King, Judith Ellen Guinn and Mary Sue (Tom) Zaputil; seven grandchildren: Aleta, Eric and Bruce Milburn, Michele and Suzanne Guinn, Amy Hemphill and Scott Zaputil and nine great grandchildren: Macy Rosberg, Tucker Milburn, Grant and Josie Hemphill, Bailey, Olivia, Dylan, Tommy and Maddie Zaputil. She is also survived by special and caring friends: Michael Guinn, Sally Bauer and Shirley Sherwood. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Delmont in 2001; siblings: Ruth Kluver, Berniece McGuire, George Scott and Glennie Dicks. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville. Interment will immediately follow services at Concord Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, November 27, 2017 at Thomas Funeral Home.
