Jimmy Levis' Obituary
Jimmy Harlan Levis, age 75 of Corydon, Iowa, passed peacefully from this life on April 13, 2020 at his home. He was born on September 21, 1944 in Centerville, Iowa to Howard and Doris (Zimmerman) Levis. He graduated from Seymour High School in 1963. On June 30, 1963, Jimmy was united in marriage to Mary Lou Fenton in Centerville Iowa. Jimmy and Mary Lou farmed for 25 years around the Sewal, Iowa area, building their family. After that he sold cars and insurance before spending several years working at Shivvers before retiring. Throughout his life on Earth, Jimmy was the gentlest man you could ever meet and anyone who met him knew he loved his family dearly. He attended all of his kids' school activities, was an active member of the school board, and always had an oatmeal cream pie and cream soda for his grandkids. It has been said that Jimmy never knew a stranger, and it's true. Whether he was joking around to pull out a smile or driving a taxi for the Amish and their children, Jimmy knew everyone and would help anyone in any way he could. He truly loved the Amish children. He would go down to the school and the kids would come running to the vehicle to pick on him. That was the height of his glory because he would just pick right back at them! His passion was helping those in need and making others smile. It was evident to all who knew and loved Jimmy. Jimmy was a long-time member of the Corydon Bible Church and was a current member of Midway Baptist Church. He was a lover of and worker for the Lord. Nothing would stop him from furthering the work that needed to be done. He was very involved in various church activities doing whatever was needed, whether that be visiting the sick or teaching Bible class. His favorite job within the church was to be the first person to greet people when they came in the church doors. He had a smile for everyone and the best hug around when it was needed. Jimmy is survived by his wife Mary Lou Levis, mother Doris Levis, and sister Betty (Richard) Couchman all of Corydon, IA, daughters Sheila (Scott) Gipson of Beach City, TX, Sherri (Adam) Schmidt of Cedar Falls, IA, and daughter-in-law Carrie Levis of Blythedale, MO., along with his eight grandchildren Brooke and (Francisco) Carrillo, Mitchell and Madison Bower, Peyton Schmidt, Jessica, Megan, and Gage Levis, and Klint Stark. Jimmy is preceded in death by his father, Howard Levis, son Mike Levis, grandson Ryan Gipson, and nephew, Scott Couchman.
