Jim Gerard's Obituary
Jim Gerard, 77, of Centerville passed away Sunday, July 23, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville. Jim was born to James & Tressa (Watts) Gerard on August 6, 1939 in Brazil, Iowa. He received his education from Centerville High School, graduating in 1957. After school, Jim began working at Hy-Vee until his retirement in 2002. Jim was united in marriage to Ruth Goodman, she preceded him on September 7, 1999. Jim was an ornery guy, he loved teasing and joking with people. He always had a smile and a funny statement. In his spare time, Jim enjoyed traveling in his motorhome. He loved visiting Branson, Missouri and traveling to Colorado. He also enjoyed watching western movies. In Jim's younger years, he also enjoyed hunting. Survivors include three children: Jim Gerard (Debbie) of Ames, Jill Gerard of Centerville, Jana Logston of Cincinnati, four grandchildren: Rhiannon Gerard, Branwen Gerard, Emilie Harwell, Mallory Logston, three sisters; Janet Willier of Centerville, Marie Sales (Claude) of Orion, Illinois, Alice Mathews of Loveland, Colorado and numerous extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Ruth and infant grandson, Rowan. Graveside service will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 28, 2017 at Haines Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, July 27, 2017 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville. Condolences may be shared at www.thomasfh.com.
