Jessie "Jay" D. Knowles' Obituary
Jessie 'Jay' D. Knowles, age 75, of Centerville, Iowa, died Sunday, August 5, 2007 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. He was born the son of Earl D. and Pebbles Cleo (Miller) Knowles on March 29, 1932 in Unionville, Missouri. He attended the Unionville Community Schools. On May 1, 1955, Jay was united in marriage to Phyllis Mikels in Unionville, Missouri. He served his country with the US Army during the Korean Conflict in the transportation division. He has worked over 50 years as an auto body mechanic for the Centerville Auto Body in Centerville, Iowa. He enjoyed a good game of golf and spending time with his family.He was preceded in death by: his parents; sisters, Almeda Wood and Mary Ruth Black.Jay is survived by: his wife, Phyllis Knowles of Centerville, Iowa; son, Mike Knowles of Centerville, Iowa; daughters, Sheryl Harlan of Unionville, Missouri, Deborah Scott and her husband, Craig of Worthington, Missouri, Donna Todey and her husband, Joe of Rathbun, Iowa and Pamela Phelps and her husband, Paul of Mystic, Iowa; brother, Raymond Knowles of Durham, Missouri; sisters, Lucille Toolate of Quincy, Illinois, Hazel Cichosz of Unionville, Missouri, Marge Edwards of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Sylvia May Speirs of Iconium, Iowa; eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 9, 2007 at 10 am at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Rev. Mark Waits officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Cincinnati, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 8, 2007 from 1 pm till 8 pm at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home with the family present form 6 pm till 8 pm at the funeral home.Memorials in lieu of flowers to the family and can be left at the funeral home.
