Jerry Johnson's Obituary
Jerry Johnson Sr., 75, of Promise City passed away Friday, November 10, 2017 at his home. Jerry was born to Clark & Sarah Johnson on July 18, 1942 in Brownsville, PA. Jerry was employed while living in Pennsylvania for Sylvan Pools. They then moved to California in 1979 where he was a contractor. He and Mary moved to Iowa in 1992, where he retired and became a hobby wood worker until his health would no longer allow him due to a stroke in 1999. Jerry received rehabilitation therapy from Camp Sunny Side to relearn how to use tools. Jerry loved the Iowa Hawkeyes. (He loved the Herkey tattoo that his son designed on his arm). He enjoyed watching NASCAR, going to casinos, and spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed running away on his golf cart and fishing. Survivors include his wife Mary, four children: Jeanie Johnson, Carol Johnson Valiquette, Jerry Johnson Jr. (Nicole), Rhonda Johnson (Brian Palmer), adopted Daughter Mia Terrell (Dave), grandchildren: Shonda Johnson (Chris Furlin), Michele Thompson(Chris Sims), Dusty Valiquette, John Rockwood Jr. (Samantha), Jeared Johnson, Deana Johnson, Phoenix Johnson, J.J. Johnson and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father Rudy Malensky, brothers: Clark, Richard, and Wade, sisters: Bonnie, Alma, Ida, Judy, grandson Christopher Pople and a son-in-law Eddie Valiquette. Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at Thomas Funeral Home in Corydon. Interment will be in Promise City Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at Thomas Funeral Home in Corydon with the family present from 5-7 p.m. Memorials may be given to Mary Johnson and condolences may be shared at www.thomasfh.com.
