Jerome ""Crazy Jerry"" Prokes' Obituary
Jerome Ivan ""Crazy Jerry"" Prokes, age 76 of Cincinnati, Iowa passed away Sunday, March 16, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville.
Jerry was born on March 2, 1938 to Ivan and Geraldine (Orr) Prokes in Jackson, Minnesota. He was raised in Riceville, Iowa. Jerry attended high school in Sheffield, Iowa and later, Black Hawk Community College in Waterloo, Iowa.
He relocated to the Centerville area in order to work in the construction field, as well as in the transportation field as a truck driver. Jerry referred to this area as ""God's Country."" Jerry was united in marriage to Evelee Mae Logsdon on November 22, 1984 in Cincinnati, Iowa.
Together they started Crazy Jerry's Fireworks and Menagerie Hill Farm. He loved the fireworks stand and the many friends he made through the love of pyrotechnics & the big booms. His love of animals gave him great joy. He traveled all over the country delivering the pets raised to Menagerie Hill. He loved to hunt and fish.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Evelee of Cincinnati, Iowa; five children, Dawn (Dwight) Nelson of Red Oak, Iowa, Jerome Prokes Jr. of Red Oak, Iowa, Mary Jane (Kenneth) Blank of Cincinnati, Iowa, Donnel (Connie) Exline of Coatesville, Missouri and Karen (Matt) Coady of Cincinnati, Iowa; eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Angie Dannen of Sheffield, Iowa, Shirley Reynolds of Mason City, Iowa and Margaret Thompson of Mason City, Iowa; and a sister-in-law, Bev Munick.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Jade Prokes and Robert Lee Exline; a brother, Bastian Munick Jr.; a sister, Patty Prokes; mother-in-law, Leona Logsdon; and a brother-in-law, Mark Logsdon.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held from 2-6 PM on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at the Cincinnati Community Center in Cincinnati, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to the family of Jerome Prokes and may be given to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa, 52544.
