Jeannie Merritt's Obituary
Norma Jean (Jeannie) Merritt, 78 of Seymour passed away, Sunday, September 25, 2016 at Circle of Life Hospice in Chariton. Jeannie was born on November 25, 1937 to Irvin & Anah (Bennett) Sharp in Promise City, Iowa. She attended Brushy College Country School through 8th grade and then graduated from Seymour High School in 1956. Jeannie accepted the Lord and was baptized in the Seymour Evangelical United Brethren Church when she was in high school. On August 12, 1956, Jeannie was united in marriage to John Junior Merritt. Jeannie was a stay at home mother until all the children were in school, then worked part time until the children were older. Jeannie and John both retired in 2007 after 38 years in business at L&M Tire in Seymour. Jeannie is survived by three children: Sally Jean Merritt Rash (Joel) of Colfax, Andy David Merritt (Julie) of Seymour, Susan Lynn Merritt-Bunnell (Rick) of Singapore, grandchildren, Jeff Campbell (Jamie) of Chariton, Travis Rash (Stephanie) of Centerville, Tanner Rash (Amy) of Eddyville, Levi Merritt (Meghan) of Vicksburg, Mississippi, Quinten Merritt (Erin) of Seymour, Clayton Merritt of Seymour, Luke Merritt of Seymour, Ross Merritt (Elizabeth) of Seymour, Juliana Bunnell of Oskaloosa, 13 great grandchildren, three brothers, Bill D. Sharp (Jeannie) of Mackay, Idaho, Gary Sharp (Colleen) of Ft. Meyers, Florida, Norman Sharp (Sonja) of Durango, Colorado, an aunt, Laura Jane Bennett Morgan (Harry) of Des Moines and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 57 years, John Junior Merritt, son, John Jeffrey Merritt, granddaughter, Natalie Bunnell and a brother Harold Irwin Sharp. Funeral service will be 7:00 p.m., Thursday, September 29, 2016 at Thomas Funeral Home in Seymour with Rev. Shawn LaRue officiating. Visitation will be two hours prior from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Seymour United Methodist Church and condolences may be shared at www.thomasfh.com.
