Jeanette Coates' Obituary
Jeanette Coates, 89, of Centerville passed away Thursday, March 13, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville Jeanette was born in Mystic on March 11, 1925 to John & Jennie (Johnson) Kelly. She received her education from Mystic Schools. On August 24, 1946 she was united in marriage to Joe Coates in Mystic. Jeanette was a member of the Centerville Easter Star Chapter 239, First United Methodist Church in Centerville and was involved in Methodist Miracles (M&M's). Jeanette spent most of her life shaping young kids in the Centerville area. She taught Kindergarten, Head Start and later on at Lollipop Lane Preschool. Children were her life, she cherished the times she had with her students and never forgot a name or face. She was always good for a birthday card or a simple hello letter. After Joe passed in 2012 she moved to the Continental on the square and enjoyed her times and conversations with the residents. She was a loving wife and mother, devoted to her family. Survivors include, two daughters; Kristin Elgin (Robert) of Oskaloosa, Nancy Snyder (Ken) of Centerville, six grandchildren; Seth Elgin (Nicole) of Ankeny, Ryan Elgin (Tiffany) of Iowa City, Holly Reeder (Billy) of Cedar Rapids, Megan Elgin of Des Moines, Tasha Ballanger of Centerville, Zachary Snyder of Centerville, eight great-grandchildren; Bailey and Lainey Reeder, Sophia and Loren Elgin, Brody and Andrew Elgin, Ally and Kyler Ballanger, brother, Don Kelly (Ruth) of St. Joe, Missouri and a sister-in-law Thelma Coates of Rockford, IL. She was preceded in death by her husband Joe Coates, daughter, Jolene Oden, seven brothers: Harold, Garold, Henry, Ronald, John Jr., Andy and Jamie Kelly. She was also preceded by her sister Virginia Kauzlarich, brother-in-law, Leland Coates and her parents. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 17, 2014 at First United Methodist Church in Centerville with Rev. Dennis Gilbert officiating. Interment will be in Highland Cemetery near Mystic. Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m., Sunday, March 16, 2014 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville. Memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church.
