Jean Myers' Obituary
Elva Jean Myers was born in Lucas County, Iowa on November 21, 1932 and passed away surrounded by her family at Mercy West Lakes Hospital on September 9, 2019 at the age of 86. Jean was the only child of Ersa and Ada (Eaton) Williamson. She lived most of her childhood on a small farm on the edge of Weldon, Iowa. When she was eleven her mother became ill and the family moved to Corydon where Jean cared for her mother for three years until her death in 1946. Jean attended and graduated from Corydon School. At the age of 17, on July 29th, 1950 Jean married Richard Dean Myers and to this union two children were born, Susan and Steve. Jean had many jobs over the years. She worked as a secretary on a military base in Indiana, as an office worker for Homer Grismore and for years she assisted several farmers at the (ASCS) USDA Farm Service Agency. When Dick returned from military service they farmed near Cambria for 53 years before retiring and moving to Corydon. They spent several winters in Mesa, Arizona and made many new friends. Jean was very creative and enjoyed painting, needle work, quilting and loved to cook for her family. She enjoyed the companionship of her neighbors and the Tuesday morning coffee club. Jean's greatest passion was her family. She was very proud of her grandchildren and loved spending time with them. She was a wonderful grandma. Jean is survived by her children: Susan Myers (Rick Cox), Steve (Dawn) Myers, her grandchildren: Cole Alley, Logan, Hannah and Emma Myers, plus a host of other family and friends.She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dick, stepmother Loyce Williamson, parents-in-law Fred and Averil Myers and brother-in-law Hal Sanders. At Jean's request there will be no visitation or funeral service. Memorials may be made to the LeCompte Memorial Library or to the Corydon Golf Club.
