Janice Arlene Hamlin's Obituary
Janice Arlene Hamlin, 82, of Milo, Iowa passed away on March 9th, 2022 in Winterset, Iowa.
Jan was born on February 1, 1940 in Cincinnati, Iowa to Gilbert and Mollie (Bertelli) Ayers. She attended Centerville High School with the class of 1959. Jan was united in marriage to Ron Hamlin on April 16, 1957 and they have three children, Scott, Shelly and Dawn.
Jan loved country dancing and was a charter member of Heartland Boot Scooters in Ottumwa, Iowa. She memorized and collected hundreds of country dances and she and Ron taught dance lessons in their community. She was passionate about service and was a 30-year member of Eagles Ladies Auxiliary holding most offices, including president. Jan was an active church member and served as deaconess, taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible school. She loved to stay active and she often walked the trail at the Centerville Reservoir.
Left to cherish Jan's memory is her husband, Ron Hamlin; her brothers, Steve Ayers and Doug Ayer; her children, Scott Hamlin (Nora), Shelly Hamlin-Rodrick (Steven) and Dawn Petrosky; grandchildren, Jennifer Hamlin, Emily Nielsen (Adam), Josh Rodrick, Micah Hamlin-Rodrick, Kelsey Schaffer (Brody), Amanda Petrosky (Ben); eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-granchild; and numerous nieces and nephews and extended family. Jan is preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter, Sherry Lynn Hamlin, a son-in-law, Keith Petrosky, and two sisters, Margaret Ponsetto and Linda Vanderheyden.
The funeral service will be on April 16, 2022 at 11:00AM at Drake Ave Christian Church. The visitation will start an hour prior, at 10:00AM. Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be given to The Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org) or donation of choice in Jan's name.
