Janet Fortune's Obituary
Janet Kay (Bevard) Fortune, 80, of Promise City, passed away on February 10, 2018 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. Janet was born on July 28, 1937 to the late Deane and Nellie (Wilmot) Bevard in Corydon, Iowa and graduated from Corydon High School in 1956. She married Dwight Fortune on June 30, 1957. Janet cherished her roles as a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her greatest delight, and the center of all she did, was nourishing her family with love, faith and creativity. She enjoyed sewing and crafting, especially when she was producing something very special for one of her kids, grandkids or great-grandkids. She loved filling her house with enticing smells as she prepared another incredible family meal. She also enjoyed playing cribbage with family and friends and taking trips with her husband and friends of the 1880 Club. And of course, she was passionate about anything and everything associated with the Iowa Hawkeyes. Janet will lovingly be remembered by her husband of 60 years, 7 months and 10 days, Dwight Fortune; one sister, Leta Mae (Lyle) Fulton; five children: Greg (Karol) Fortune, Brenda (Jon) Fortune-Isker, Becky (Rich) Dixon, Barb Fortune and Russ (Kathy) Fortune; 13 grandchildren: Nikita, Stacia, TJ, Cyndi, Amanda, Ben, Jessica, Lane, Morgan, Evan, Brandon, Mackenzie and Collin as well as 5 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at Thomas Funeral Home in Corydon. Interment will immediately follow at Promise City Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at the funeral home.
