Jane Irene Swab's Obituary
Jane Irene Swab, 82 of Centerville, Iowa, died on Thursday, October 2, 2008 at Centerville Nursing & Rehab Center in Centerville. She was born the daughter of Larry and Irene (Metz) Dillon on June 11, 1926 in Cincinnati, Ohio at Christ Hospital. Jane attended the first six years of school at the Immaculate School in Cincinnati. The next two years at the St. Joan of Arc in Indianapolis, Indiana and the last four years in public school in Indianapolis.She spent four years of college at Butler University in Indianapolis majoring in Journalism and English with a minor in Psychology. During her college years, Jane was a member of the Honor Society, Alpha Chi Omega, Gamma Alpha Chi (advertising), and Pi Alpha Kapha (journalism). After graduation, Jane worked for the Hooks Drug Company in the advertising department. She moved to Lawrenceberg, Indiana and took a position as a secretary with the Joseph E. Seagrams Company, where she met Bill Swab and they were married on April 11, 1953.They lived in Wayne, Michigan and Taylor, Michigan before moving to Centerville, Iowa in 1975. While in Michigan, Jane worked in a law office. Upon moving to Centerville, Jane worked with Bill to establish the Edwards Jones office which brought Wall Street to Centerville, Iowa. Jane continued to work in the office until 1995.She was active in the St. Joseph's Hospital Auxiliary, where she filled all offices and became President of the local chapter in 1979. Jane caught the attention of the State Board and was appointed the District Representative. Later, she became a member of the State Board where her responsibility was the Editor of the State Magazine which included overseeing the state articles, pictures, plus writing articles for the reporting of the local chapter news.After retirement, Jane became a skilled Bridge player and a member of the American Society of University Professional Women. Jane's other interests include six dogs and the support of the charity for the prevention of abuse to animals. She has given generously to the World War II Memorial and numerous civic needs, charities and school scholarships.She was preceded in death by her parents.Survived by: her husband, Bill Swab of Centerville, Iowa.Memorial services will be held on Monday, October 6, 2008 at 2 pm at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centerville, Iowa with Fr. Dennis Schaab officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 5, 2008 from 4 pm till 8 pm at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville and the family present from 6 pm till 8 pm at the funeral home.
