James E. Sutter's Obituary
James "Jim" E. Sutter, age 85 of Seymour, Iowa passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at Wayne County Hospital.
He was born in McLean County, Illinois on November 29, 1930, the son of John H. and Bernice (Broderick) Sutter. Jim graduated from Seymour High School in 1948.
Jim entered the United States Navy on January 24, 1951. He served on the U.S.S. Ranson and the U.S.S. Sustain during the Korean War. Jim was honorably discharged from the Navy with the rank of Engineman Second Class on January 21, 1955.
Jim was united in marriage to Jo Campbell on April 27, 1957 in Numa, Iowa and to this union of marriage, two children were born, John R. and James D. In April of this year the couple celebrated fifty nine years of marriage.
Following his service in the military, Jim spent most of his adult life working in the agricultural field as a cattle feeder and farming in both Appanoose and Wayne Counties.
While farming occupied much of Jims daily life, in his free time, he enjoyed outings with family and friends to Lake Thunderhead in Missouri. Throughout the years, Jim took pleasure in teaching loved ones how to water ski.
Jim was also active in many groups throughout his lifetime, including the Seymour American Legion, Past Franklin Farmhands 4H Leader, a Franklin Township Trustee, past school board member of the Seymour Schools, and a member of the St. Marys Catholic Church in Unionville, Missouri.
Most importantly, Jim cherished his family and friends. He was considered a special uncle to several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Thomas V. Sutter and John H. (Jack) Sutter; a sister, Patricia A. OMalley; a beloved niece, Stephanie Johnson; and two nephews, Joe Sutter and Steven Sutter.
Jim is survived by his wife, Jo (Campbell) Sutter of Seymour, Iowa; two children, John R. (Carolyn) Sutter of Kirksville, Missouri and James D. (Vicki) Sutter of LaBelle, Florida; one grandchild, Journey Sutter of Kirksville, Missouri; two great grandchildren, Mackenzie and Campbell Smith both of Alexandria, Virginia; as well as several nieces and nephews; and a host of other family members.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, June 25, 2016 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville, Iowa with Pastor Greg Dickson officiating. Burial will follow in the Southlawn Cemetery, Seymour. A visitation will take place on Saturday, June 25, 2016 from 10:00AM-11:00AM, prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Franklin Farmhands 4H Club and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa, 52544.
