James Allen Strode's Obituary
James Allen Strode, age 77, of Des Moines, Iowa and a former Centerville, Iowa resident, died Monday, April 9, 2007 at Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. He was born the son of William Leland and Minnie Bell (Baxter) Strode on February 2, 1930 in Centerville. He graduated from Centerville Community Schools. Jim spent over 6 years serving his Country during the Korean Conflict in the US Army where he earned 4 bronze stars for his service. After his honorable discharge from the service, he worked in the construction industry for many years and later was a courier driver with Purolator. Most recently, Jim worked as a security guard at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. On December 6, 1952, Jim was united in marriage to Delores Trent in Nevada, Iowa. He enjoyed country music, horses and his pets. He was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Des Moines, IowaHe was preceded in death by: his parents; wife, Delores Strode on October 28, 1998; brothers, William V. Strode and Robert Strode; sisters, Elizabeth Thomas, Mary Louise Hayes and Dorothy Norman.Jim is survived by: his son, Charles Allen Strode of Port Saint Lucie, Florida; his sister, Joan Waller of Des Moines, Iowa; and his grandson, Spenser Strode of Orlando, Florida.Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2007 at 1:30 pm at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Rev. Dianne Christopher officiating. Burial will follow in the Dale Cemetery north of Centerville with full military honors.
