James Warner Smyser's Obituary
James Warner Smyser, age 97, of Centerville, Iowa, died Monday, February 9, 2004, at Centerville Nursing & Rehab Center in Centerville. He was born the son of Phenice and Sarah (Ransom) Smyser on October 26, 1906 in Glenwood, Missouri. He received his education in a rural country school.Warner farmed in the Glenwood, Missouri area until the early 1960's. He enjoyed his sawmill business, combining for others, trading and selling of guns and experimenting with photography. He also liked story telling, being with people and especially a warm beer.He was preceded in death by: his parents; brother, Herbert Smyser; sisters, Goldie Spurgeon, Ruby Hart and Merle Tade; niece, Donna Matthews.Warner was survived by: sister, Velta Sleeth of Iowa City, Iowa; nieces, Shirley Cardani of Iowa City, Iowa, Lolita Kongable and Tonita Daugherty both of Mason City, Iowa and Beverly Spurgeon of Centerville,Iowa; nephews, Richard Sleeth and his wife, Ilene of Udell, Iowa and Calvin Spurgeon and his wife, Jean of Wimmemucca, NevadaGraveside funeral services will be held on Friday, February 13, 2004 at 11:30 am at the Glenwood Cemetery near Glenwood, Missouri with Gerald Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in the Glenwood Cemetery. No visitation is planned.
