James Wesley Selby's Obituary
James Wesley Selby was born at home on the family farm southeast of Allerton, Iowa to Denise and Gerald Selby. His grandfather Dr. D.R. Ingraham of Sewal delivered him. He died October 25, 2016 at the age of 70 at home just north of the house where he was born. Wesley graduated from Cambria Corydon High School in 1963 and attended Mechanics School in Kansas City. He went into the Army in 1965 and then was sent to Vietnam. When he returned to the States as a Sergeant, he trained troops in Colorado, then he went home to farm with his dad. His exposure to Agent Orange was a factor in his death. He was a member of the Allerton American Legion for over 45 years. He married Sherryl Jackson at the Clio Baptist church on September 29, 1968 and they moved into his home close to his folks. They became the proud parents to Grant, Angela and Jason. Wesley enjoyed hunting, trapshooting, fishing (but not cleaning them), reading westerns and watching Nascar racing. He was a hard worker and honest with people. He had several dogs over the years including Chopper, Rocky and J.W. Wesley had dialysis at Wayne County Dialysis Unit three days a week for over six years. He was friends with the staff and other people there. The last months of his life he and Sherryl drove to Creston thirty-five times for radiation treatments. He was preceded in death by his son Grant, his parents, in-laws Paul and Ethel Jackson, nephew Matt Selby, and two brothers in-law Gene Salsberry and Garold Jelsma. He will be missed by his wife Sherryl, daughter Angela (Matt) Bryant, son Jason (Jennifer) Selby, grandchildren; Logan, Shaine, Jack, and Emilie Bryant and Haley and Natalie Neal, Wes, Grant, and Jasmine Selby, sisters; Gayla (Dennis) Alley, Ann (Dick) Main, brothers; David (Kay) Selby and Ted Selby, Aunt Jasmine Miller, sisters-in-law; Phyllis Jelsma, Wilma (Phil) Johnson and Charlene Salsberry, and many nieces, nephews and other family members and friends. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Thomas Funeral Home in Corydon. Interment will be in Richardson Chapel immediately following. Visitation will be one hour prior to service from 10-11 a.m. Memorials may be given to Wayne County Hospital Dialysis Unit and condolences may be shared at www.thomasfh.com.
