James L. Mcdonald's Obituary
James L. ""Slats"" McDonald, age 89 of Centerville, Iowa passed away Sunday, March 08, 2009 at the Centerville Nursing and Rehab Center in Centerville.
James was born June 27, 1919 in Lovilia, Iowa to Frank and Verla (Mahin) McDonald. He attended catholic school at St. Patrick's in Melrose, Iowa. James was a truck driver for several years. He later went into farming.
James married Betty Mishler on January 2, 1976 at St. Francis Church in Mystic, Iowa. They lived northwest of Mystic for the next thirty years on a farm. James and Betty moved to Centerville in 2006 when they retired. James is a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Knight's of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife Betty McDonald of Centerville; a son Doyle (Rhonda) McDonald of Centerville, a step-daughter Linda (John) Kastens of Unadilla, Nebraska; six step-grandchildren; three step-great grandchildren; a special nephew Jackie (Ada) Tarbell of Ottumwa, Iowa; brothers Edward McDonald of Albia, Iowa, John (Mary) McDonald of Albia, Iowa, Walter (Christine) McDonald of Nevada, Iowa; an aunt Gladys Lane of Coralville, Iowa; several nieces and nephews; cousins; and a host of friends and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Bill and Joe McDonald, who was killed in WW II, and Tommy McDonald in infancy; sisters Margaret Tarbell and Evelyn Scott; brother-in-laws Truman Tarbell and Bob Scott.
Mass of the resurrection will be held 11 AM, Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centerville with Father Dennis Schaab officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Albia, Iowa. A visitation will be held Tuesday at the Lange Funeral Home in Centerville with the family present from 6-8 PM. A prayer service will be at 7:30 that evening. A memorial has been established to the either the Centerville FFA or the St. Mary's Catholic Church and may be left at or mailed to the Lange Funeral Home, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa, 52544.
