Words can't express how sad I was to find out of Jim's passing. I met Jim while he worked at Excel Bank. We bonded over our love of guns and he definately kept me in line at the bank and was always truthful about whatever I asked him. He was a standup guy and that's what I loved about him the most. They say the lord only takes the best and he sure did this time. My heart goes out to all the family and know that you all are in my thoughts and prayers during this time of loss. Dear Marla and family, Unfortunately I met and worked with Jim late in our both of our banking careers. He was my immediate supervisor and friend during a transition period which included liquidating a bank's assets which is not an easy situation to endure. However, Jim was steadfast in seeking the truth and in consistently applying sound lending and banking principles. More importantly he was honest in working with others. He would not tell you what you wanted to hear--rather he told the truth and he would not avoid situations just because they were difficult. Jim was always helpful by providing constructive suggestions which worked and which were based on his years of problem solving. His counsel allowed my family to make major critical decisions based on knowledge. During our time together we enjoyed a successful fishing trip to Bennet Springs. He shared his favorite fishing spot with me and I remember how happy he was when I caught my limit before he caught his second fish (a fact that I reminded him of frequently). Of course I would have not caught anything if it had not been for Jim helping by explainig his successful fishing technics. This illustrates the type of person Jim was...always willing to help someone do something better. Whether it was fishing, hunting, building, or financing Jim was there to help. Our lives have been blessed by having known Jim and he will always be remembered as one of the bright spots of our banking careers. He left us too soon and will be missed. My prayers are with Jim's wife and family. I worked with Jim at Mid State's Bank in Omaha, NE many years ago. I was new in banking and he never seemed to smile a whole lot, if at all, until one day I brought some of my grandmothers kolache's. Everyday after that he would smile, (kinda) and ask me when's grandma going to make more of them there kolaches He and my husband Craig (Miller) became great friends. Endless hunting trips. I would bake something, always for Jim of course. Craig had strict instructions not to open anything until Jim got them first. To this day, when I see Craig, he still gives me a little guff over that. But always says, That's OK, if it was anyone else but Jim, I might still be mad. Mom called Saturday with the news. Marla, Jackie and other family members my thoughts and prayers are with you. What I and I know many of his friends remember most is his quiet strength of will and honor, loyalty to all he called friends and family, love for his dogs, attentional to details in work and hobbies and dry sense humor. He worked hard but knew how to take the time to enjoy the simple things in life. Shopping with his sisters , fishing, hunting, biking with friends or calling someone just to touch base with their life. He SHARED his life with many in the quiet dignity that was Jim. May your memories and the memories of others ease your pain as you move forward. Wish I could be there, so hugs to all of you from a distance. I'm was so very sorry and sad to hear of Jim's passing. I have had the pleasure of working and most of all creating a friendship with him during the past six years. He was an exceptional bank consultant, straight shooter and didn't hesitate to do the right thing or speak his mind when it was in the best interest of the bank he happened to be working for at the time. We routinely kept in touch, exchanging life stories about our families and most of all his fishing trips. He will be missed. God bless you all and take care.
